Tonight will mark Gibraltar’s debut in hosting an competitive international at home. Supporters will no longer have to catch the bus to Faro, simply get on their local bus and make their way down to Victoria Stadium.
It’s a hallmark moment for the GFA and the national side. Having been in the past two qualifying campaigns for major tournaments they now get to bring the superstars to their backyard.
The bookmakers are making Gibraltar huge outsiders this evening, but the conditions favour the local team. The support will be immense, and it’s a pitch that they are more than familiar with. A pitch which still plays hugely to their advantage, a pitch which caused Celtic a world of problems when they came here.
Make no mistake they will come under huge pressure. Macedonia, whilst not a giant of the footballing world, is still a very experienced side. They will not come here with any fear of the opposition, but they will be surprised to see the stadium packed to the rafters.
It’s been suggested that there are fewer than 100 tickets left for tonight. So if you’ve not one, then be quick. For locals, it will be a moment to savour.
Let’s make them regret this statement:
Macedonia begins its UEFA Nations League journey tomorrow at Gibraltar, a squad that any serious NT has to beat
The aim is to win League D (anything less would be a failure). The players and coaches embrace that. Let’s see the play tomorrow indicate that
