Two experienced HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) Financial Investigators travelled from the UK to Gibraltar last week to train local Customs Officers in both Financial Intelligence and Financial Investigations. The training is based on the National Crime Agency Financial Investigation Courses and approved by HMRC Criminal Justice Academy in the UK. They aim to equip officers with the knowledge and skills required to manage financial evidence in respect of criminal proceedings, allowing the successful prosecution of money laundering offences and the recovery of criminal assets. The participants were Senior Customs Officer Clifford Wink and Executive Customs Officer Darren Lightbody from the Gibraltar Financial Intelligence Unit; and Executive Customs Officers Gaynor Macias, Alex Macdonald and John Payas together with Customs Officer Jamie Pecino from the HM Customs Investigation Branch.

The Collector of Customs John Rodriguez would like to thank both trainers for their hard work in preparing the bespoke training which focused on local legislation and procedures, in particular with regards to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2015.
