Chelsea V Southampton

Tuesday 25th April 2017
20:45 Kick Off Live on

This will be the 99th meeting between these two. In the previous 98 games Chelsea have won 40, they have drawn 28 and Southampton have won 30 of them.

Last time they met was back in October and it was Chelsea who managed to grab a good 2-0 away win. Eden Hazard opened the scoring after just 6 minutes and it stayed that way until the 55th minutes when Diego Costa sealed the points for Chelsea with his strike.

Chelsea have been in good form of late, they have won 4 and lost 2 of their last 6 matches in all competitions. Last time out was in the semi finals of the FA CUP when they beat 2nd in the league Tottenham Hotspur 4-2.

Southampton have been in quite good form themselves, they have won 3 drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 6, they did lose last time out 3-0 at home to Manchester City.

Chelsea are currently sitting top of the pile and are 4 points clear of 2nd placed Spurs.

Southampton are currently in 9th place in the table, a win here could take them within 1 point of the top 8.

Chelsea have no fresh injuries, their only doubt is Gary Cahill who is back in training.

Southampton are still without long term absentee’s Matt Targett and Charlie Austin, Sam McQueen is also set to miss this fixture due to a groin strain.

Chelsea have lost two of their last 4 league games, twice as many as in the previous 22 matches.

Southampton have not won a game against a side in the top 6 all season, drawing 2 and losing 6.

Chelsea are clear favourites for this and can be backed @ 6/13 with 188Bet, the draw is @ 19/5 with a couple of firms including Sporting bet. Southampton best @ 8/1 with Bet Fred.

Are Chelsea starting to let nerves get the better of them? I don’t think so, I think Chelsea can take a huge step to claiming the title here.
