As Gibraltar prepares to paint the town green for the festivities on 17th March there is definitely reason to celebrate as this year Lá Fhéile Pádraig falls on a Friday. To be sure you have a great night (and need all weekend to recover,) GibLad brings you the lowdown on our top picks for Paddy’s Day 2017.

O’Reilly’s (Ocean Village) is Gibraltar’s favourite Irish pub, and they’ve certainly set out to deliver for you this year. Prepare yourself at the top of the mornin’ with a traditional Irish breakfast banquet between 8am and 11am. If you reserve your table in advance they’ll even throw in a FREE Guinness Hat. The team at O’Reilly’s will also have a food tent setup outside all day… so there’s no excuse not to take some sustenance.

Your pub crawl, courtesy of Events.gikicks off at midday and features six bars. In each you’ll collect a FREE gift for buying a drink. I’m going to go out on a limb here and recommend you finish your night at O’Reilly’s, where you’ll enjoy live music up to 2.30am.

Tickets are available from Jury’s and O’Reilly’s, setting you back £5 each.

If you fancy something a bit more chilled look no further than the Ivy, where – don’t worry – they’ll be handing out FREE Guinness hats and dishing out traditional Irish grub throughout the day.

The live music starts and 6pm and from 10pm you’ll get U2’s hits from tribute band “The Hype”.

And my favourite thing about The Ivy’s offering – it’s totally FREE… (Disclaimer: Apart from your drinks. Those are on you. Mine too actually.)

Not your obvious choice for St Patrick’s day, but heaven knows the guys down at The Cuban can make a mean cocktail…

Take your chances with a Paddy’s Party Cocktail for just £3 and prepare yourself for a long night of liquid nourishment with a large portion of The Cuban’s Guiness Beef Nachos at £9.50.

For a traditional “local” pub vibe get down to the Red Lion, where from 8pm they’ll be laying on a FREE buffet, live Irish music and karaoke with an Irish twist. And if you’re partial to a FREE drink you’ll definitely want to have a go “finding the leprechaun”.

DUSK never fail to disappoint on the entertainment front and Friday will be no different with FULLERDJ on the decks and live music from AVDRUMS. Tickets are £5 each at the door, which opens at midnight. As usual demand will be high, so it’s worth getting there early to avoid getting upset once you’ve had a few…

There are good reasons to get over to Eclipse Lounge early too – they’re not only offering FREE entry between midnight and 01:30am, they’ll also be laying on an open bar between those hours. Expect commercial tunes followed by some techno, tech house, and some old school & funk from a local DJ.

FYI as far as we know both of venues tend to enforce a 25-and-over door policy on a Friday.

Those are our picks for St Patrick’s day 2017 in Gibraltar. Have we missed a great night? Let us know in the comments where you’ll be.

ENJOY THE CRAIC, and don’t forget to drink responsibly.
