Middlesbrough V Manchester City

Saturday 11th March 2017
13:15 Kick Off live on BT Sport available with GibSat

These sides have met 127 times in the past and its almost impossible to separate them on history. Man City edge it winning 50 times, Boro are just 1 behind winning 49 and they have drawn on 28 occasions.

These two met back in November in the Premier League at the Etihad and the points were shared. Man City took the lead through Aguero just before the break. That goal seemed to have been enough to take the spoils until injury time when Marten De Roon grabbed a late equaliser for the visitors.

The closest Boro have come to winning this prestigious trophy was back in 1997 when they reached the final and faced off against Chelsea. Chelsea manged to run out winners on that occasion winning 2-0.

Man City have won this trophy 5 times in their history. The last time was in 2011 when they beat Stoke City 1-0 through a Yaya Toure goal. Only Toure, Silva and Kompany remain from that starting 11.

Boro have been in pretty poor form of late winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 3 of their last 6. They have lost their last 2 in a row including last time out when Stoke beat them relatively comfortably 2-0.

Man City have been in much better form winning 4 and drawing 2 of their last 6. Despite their current unbeaten run they will be disappointed they didn’t manage to beat Stoke City last time out who managed to hold them to a 0-0 draw at the Etihad.

Boro will be without defenders George Friend (Calf) and Daniel Ayala (Hamstring) through injury and Adlene Guedioura is ineligible.

City are without Gabriel Jesus and Gundogan who are long term injuries but will be boosted by the return of their captain Kompany who is available following injury.

Neither side will want a replay which should make for a pretty open game. You can back Man City @ 1/2 with a few firms including Corals, the draw is @ 15/4 with bet365 and Bet Victor. Boro are generally @7/1 but you can get as big as 38/5 with Marathon bet.

I think City will have too much for Boro here and Aguero has been scoring goals recently so I will be backing City @ 1/2 and Aguero to score anytime @ 8/11 with Bet365.
