Liverpool faced Leeds tonight the English Football League Cup and what a night it turned out to be.

The last time these two clubs met was back on 22nd September 2009 also in the EFL Cup where Liverpool visited Elland Road and left 1 – 0 victors. Liverpool took a 2 – 0 victory tonight to progress onto the next round but Leeds Utd put up quite a fight.

On a more memorable note the record for youngest ever LFC player was broken tonight by Wales Under-19 international Ben Woodburn at 17 years and 45 days old. The previous holder was none other that Michael Owen who gave his best wishes to the young future prospect.

Closer to home, the Fortuna brothers had a great bit of sibling rivalry going on with @jfortuna42 tweet demonstrating the passion than runs strong locally for our footy clubs.

Leeds Utd look to be showing they’re now serious contenders for promotion with a solid run of 4 wins from their last 5 games including overturning promotion favourates Norwich City in a thrilling 3 – 2 win with Vieira snatching it in injury time! This leaves them sitting 5th place in the Championship and home to Aston Villa this Saturday.

Liverpool now have to concentrate on their Premier League title challenge and with Coutinho confirmed as out until at least the new year, they travel to Dean Court this Sunday with every intention of leaving with 3 points from Bournemouth. The Cherries, managed by young but impressive Eddie Howe will not be writing themselves off.

Liverpool also face Everton in the passionate Merseyside derby on Monday 19th December and Man City on New Year’s Eve, this is going to be a vital month for them. We all know a Liverpool fan who thinks it’s their year again . . . watch this space.
